Now that Favreapalooza is over, Wisconsin sports fans need help in their "pain transition." We're here for you, folks. Vikings showdown puts McCarthy in the spotlight
The focus will be on the quarterbacks Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field, and that's understandable. In addition to a referendum on Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, the Packers-Vikings game will provide information about Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy. A victory will silence his critics. A loss or lackluster effort may fuel the debate about his acumen.

Clearly, revenge had nothing to do with it...
A picture is worth 1,000 words. In this case, involving Brett Favre, maybe it's more.

Which quarterback is No. 1? Favre leaves little doubt
Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre is going to turn 40 next week, and there can be no doubt that he is still, at his advanced age, one of the top quarterbacks in the National Football League. Sure, his Vikings are better than Aaron Rodgers' Packers. But part of that, a big part, is that Favre is better than Rodgers. It's not even close.

Green Bay Replay: Vikings 30, Packers 23
A whole lot of Packers fans watched Brett Favre perform on "Monday Night Football" and were overcome by waves of nostalgia. Decked out in Vikings purple and performing before a shrieking throng in the Metrodome, Favre shredded the Packers defense and led his team to a 30-23 victory that was far more convincing than the final score indicates.

Monday musings: October 2009 edition
I'm a little distracted today. Maybe it's from a nice weekend, or maybe it has something to do with some sort of football game tonight. I do have a bunch of things on my mind, though. I'd like to get them on "paper" before they float away.

Favre-a-palooza is a boon for the T-shirt business
You might not own one (yet), but you've probably seen some of the shirts that began making the rounds since Brett Favre decided to put on the purple helmet and play for the Vikings.

It's always personal with Brett Favre
Sometimes when covering sports, you forget that you are supposed to be a fan. You forget that you used to care about which team won or lost. Monday is not one of those nights.

Just how big is this little game on Monday night?
Like many Wisconsin sports fans, OnMilwaukee.com's Dave Begel is conflicted as he prepares to watch Brett Favre play against the Packers.

Green Bay Replay: Packers 36, Rams 17
The final score screamed "rout." The final stats shouted "closer than it looked" and "closer than it should have been." None of that really matters now. Sure, the Packers needed to beat the Rams Sunday in St. Louis, especially after losing a home game to Cincinnati in Week 2. Now that the game is over, and the expected verdict was reached, everyone can focus on Favre-a-palooza.

ESPN's Bill Simmons picks Packers to win it all
Dave Begel did it earlier this week. Today, my favorite national sports guy, Bill Simmons, has done it too. Simmons, in a 5,000-word column on ESPN.com, picks the Green Bay Packers to win the Super Bowl.

Reader poll
Would you rather suffer through a December of sub-zero temperatures and blizzards or a first-round playoff loss at the hands of Brett Favre?
I'll take the Ice Age and a Packers win.
I'd rather see the Packers lose to Favre so I can stay warm.
This is like choosing the least painful way to die.
