Creative ways to get customers out during the storm
I hate snow as much as the next guy -- maybe more than the next guy. I don't mind a dusting or the pretty little flakes. Like most of you, I hate the shoveling and the commute-related bull. But I'm not here to gripe about it -- I'm sure I'll do that deeper into the season. No, I'm here to point out that every cloud has a silver lining -- even snow storm clouds, it seems.

After much talk about the future of Von Trier, 2235 N. Farwell Ave., John and Cindy Sidoff -- owners of Hooligan's, 2017 E. North Ave., told OnMilwaukee.com today that they have purchased the building from Mark Eckert.

Sale of Von Trier is dead; bar reopens Wednesday
When owner Mark Eckert closed the doors to Von Trier "for good" the last Monday of September, it was a well-known secret that Diablos Rojos -- owners of Cafe Hollander, Trocadero, Cafe Centraal and other Milwaukee hot spots -- was eyeing the space. Rumor was that the plan was to clean up the place and add a kitchen, but to maintain the German character of Von Trier. Now, a well-placed source, who asked to remain anonymous, says the deal is done.

Abbey Biercafe sheds the "fat"
The near-Water Street bar formerly known as Fat Abbey Biercafe has apparently shed a bit of its winter weight just in time for summer. Co-owner Mike Eitel announced today that Diablos Rojos has decided to drop the word "Fat" from the bar and restaurant's name.

The food is solid, but service languid at Centraal
Café Centraal, 2306 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., the Diablos Rojos restaurant group's fourth and newest venue, has been open just shy of a month and a half now, and the restaurant's popularity seems to continue to grow as the days pass. The food here is already solid and consistent.
