Venturi's Market preps homestyle meals at family style prices
Opening 12 years ago and expanding into a second storefront three years later, Venturi's Market is tucked away on the 7200 block of W. North Avenue, sandwiched by Snap Fitness and Chinese Pagoda restaurant. The café and deli originally opened with Italian flavors in mind but over the years, they've expanded to carry fresh meats and cheeses, specialty canned and packaged goods along with made-from scratch deli items of all sorts.

Rapid review: Benji's Deli
Nothing stays the same, even the venerable old Benji's Deli in Shorewood. Benji sold the iconic Milwaukee deli years ago, and the place has been sanitized quite a bit. But the quality of the food stays the same, and along with Jake's, is one of the two totally legit Jewish delis in the Milwaukee area.

The National is a great new addition to cafe culture
In a great little storefront spot on the corner of 9th Street and National Avenue, two large picture windows adorned in retro print drapery reveal a quaint, yet contemporary looking café. This is The National, a brand new coffee shop and restaurant at 839 W. National Ave. that recently reclaimed the space left empty by Brooklyn Bob's move to Downtown.

Milwaukee's best deli, 2008: Sendik's
There are two kinds of delis: the ones where you order a corned beef sandwich, and the ones where you pick up food from the counter to dazzle your guests at a backyard barbecue (while secretly taking the all the credit).

Attari Supermarket hits the mark on ethnic groceries
Attari is difficult to classify. Its brightly colored sign, however, says -- both in English and Arabic -- that it sells Middle Eastern Foods, as well as select Hispanic and American goods.

Say "oui" to Laissez Faire
I'm starting to think the patrons must see us and coming and clear out, since like the last few places we tried, Laissez Faire was also empty. But that meant more time for the two-person staff to work on our meals, I suppose, and both my wife and I were pleased with our lunch.

Milwaukee ties still strong for Scottsdale deli owners
Steve and Nancy Kashman don't live in Milwaukee anymore, but considering how many old friends drop into to their two Arizona delis, sometimes it feels like it they're back in Wisconsin.

New owner of Jake's Deli doesn't change a thing ... and that's why it's great
Step inside Jake's Deli and you might as well be entering a time machine. The clientele is different than it was 50 years go. But the booths are the same, and more importantly, so is the corned beef. And that's exactly how the owners like it.
