Alice Coltrane dies at 69
Jazz pianist Alice Coltrane, widow of jazz saxophonist John Coltrane, died Friday, Jan. 12 at the West Hills Hospital near Los Angeles. She was 69.

Kahn chronicles Impulse!
Ashley Kahn, often heard on NPR, is the author of books about the making of John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" LP and Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue." His new volume is an eclectic portrait of one of the most eclectic labels in jazz history, Creed Taylor's Impulse!.

Soutrane's empire of musical freedom
Chicago-born and Milwaukee-based musician Jason Wietlespach been in a multitude of free music ensembles, most notably as saxophonist, bassist and production engineer for the groups Castle Broadway and Field of Sound. Starting his own record label, Soutrane, has given him an outlet to work creatively in both sound and visual mediums.
