A Brookfield native, Ben Flanner moved to New York eight years ago. Bombay Sweets balances spicy heat, sweetness
Bombay Sweets is a vegetarian restaurant that seems like a giant cafeteria and bakery featuring cases and cases of Indian, Pakistani and Bengali sweets and a substantial menu posted on the wall.
Non-vegetarians should not be intimidated or discouraged from dining. Just about everything on the menu is explained by ingredient or photograph, and the confections are delicious.

Casual comfort is the key at Slim McGinn's West
While tending to a successful operation in Walker's Point at 338 S. 1st St., McGinn talked to several West Side residents who longed for a similar establishment in their neighborhoods. In March, McGinn opened Slim's West in a building that formerly housed the Meadow Inn. "This really sprung from people at the Downtown location saying, 'Boy, we wish we had something like that on our side of town,'" McGinn said.
