A bevy of Bay View happenings
The unofficial mayor of Bay View (and my good friend) Bill Rouleau is at it again. Bill has obviously been busy, because three of the best events the neighborhood puts on all year go down over the next few weeks, and I plan on being at each.

Bingo at the 'Mino
I've never worked at a bar, but based on empirical evidence, I'm guessing that Mondays are, generally speaking, slow nights in the tavern business. Maybe it was the $1 cans of PBR and Tecate that brought in a good crowd to the Palomino last night. But I'm guessing it was mostly the free bingo.

NPR highlights Milwaukee's "Bipolar Plunge"
Steve Inskeep, host of NPR's "Morning Edition," gave Milwaukee's own bicycle "Bipolar Plunge" its 15 seconds of fame this morning, using the event to tease its 8:30 a.m. newscast.

Biketoberfest 2008 is on, rain or stars!
Twice a year, one of my favorite Milwaukee events goes down -- but you'll never find it in any tourist pamphlet or Visit Milwaukee guide book. The June version is called the "Tour de Farce," and Saturday night's event is "Biketoberfest." I can best describe the fun as a pub crawl -- by bicycle.

Tapping a pint of Brewers fever
Bill Rouleau shares my unhealthy and rabid obsession with the Brewers, and I know he had something up his sleeve when I saw his coy smile as he walked over with a pint of Guinness.

Record Store Day reminds us to support local businesses
Saturday is Record Store Day in the U.S. and in Milwaukee, local shops like Atomic Records, RushMor, Bull's Eye and Exclusive Company celebrate the joys of recorded music stamped into vinyl or encoded onto CDs.

Snow is no hazard for those who Bike Winter
While most of us allow the falling temperatures to flatten our ambition, some Milwaukeeans think that there's no time like tundra time to hop on their bikes and go for a ride.

Reader poll
Would you rather suffer through a December of sub-zero temperatures and blizzards or a first-round playoff loss at the hands of Brett Favre?
I'll take the Ice Age and a Packers win.
I'd rather see the Packers lose to Favre so I can stay warm.
This is like choosing the least painful way to die.
