Making a community in Milwaukee
There has been a rash of burglaries in my neighborhood recently and a string of car break-ins. Whenever faced with the collective yawn of the authorities, my mind flips to the scenario of leaving the city. It's only natural, I think, and it lasts only a few seconds. Because, I think of people I know who live out in the `burbs and about how most of them have almost no human contact there.

Return to glory for City Hall
When it was built in 1893, Milwaukee's City Hall stood as a testament to the city's emerging status as a major metropolis. But after 100 years of wind, rain, snow, ice and other effects of time, the landmark needed some major attention. Three years after a massive renovation project began, the scaffolding was taken down, the restored clock was lit and the famous bell sounded once again.
