Say what you will about local music, but you can't deny that local musicians look out for each other. When it became known that WAMI-winning keyboardist Sam Steffke was suffering from a rare blood disease, his compatriots sprang into action.

Pure calls it quits -- for good
A weekend shooting seems to have been the last straw for Pure, 162 W. Wisconsin Ave. Westown Association executive director Ellen Winters received a call today from Marv Berg, the owner of the downtown nightclub Pure, saying he was calling it quits.

Despite Ellen Winters' talent and success, it took her colleagues five years to get her to record her debut album, titled "Pure Imagination," the first release from Chicago-based jazz label 251 Records.
