Italian Film Festival returns to UWM Union Theatre
For the third straight year, Milwaukee hosts the entirely free Italian Film Festival USA, this weekend, May 9-10, at UWM Union Theatre, on the second floor of the Student Union, 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd. This is the second time the festival has taken place at UWM. The Milwaukee Underground Film Festival also takes place this weekend.

"Wendy and Lucy" drenched in woe
When it rains it pours. And although the skies over Oregon are dry for Wendy, an Indiana gal on her way to Alaska to find work in Kelly Reichardt's film "Wendy and Lucy" trouble drenches her like a Pacific Northwest downpour. "Wendy and Lucy" screens at UWM's Union Theatre, Friday-Sunday, May 1-3.

Latin American film series screens "Empty Nest"
Ever seen a film in which at least one of the main characters was so clueless that the frustration of watching was nearly unbearable? Welcome to "Empty Nest" (El Nido Vacio), an Argentine, Italian, Spanish and French co-production directed by Daniel Burman that screens for free Friday, April 17 at UWM Union Theater as part of the Latin American Film Series.

Volunteer festival work keeps me current
I have a pile of films, some of which I've now seen and some still awaiting viewing, and it's exciting. For once, I actually feel sort of current on Italian cinema.
