As a lifelong Milwaukeean with two decades of legal drinking under her belt, OnMilwaukee.com writer Molly Snyder has been to quite a few Brew City bars, lounges, taverns, night clubs, music venues and the like. But like everyone, she has her share of bar blind spots, too. She spent the last couple of weeks making a point to stop in at such places.

When I moved to Milwaukee in 1983 I lived in Walker's Point and spent a lot of time on the corner of 5th and National. And I can assure you a Walker's Point Food Crawl back then would involve Rudy's, Acapulco, a ham and egger kitty corner from Tech on National and a couple bodegas, at best. But, as you know, that's all changed and there's more than enough gastronomic activity in the heart of old George Walker's town to fuel a marathon of eating that could last months.

It's not as popular as pool or darts, but shuffleboard definitely has a loyal group of players. Numerous local bars have shuffleboard tables - some manual, some electric, some free and some coin-or-dollar-operated.

Claiming to have the No. 1 Bloody Mary in the city is a big declaration, but Jerry Stenstrup has no qualms about doing so. In 1985, Stenstrup and his wife, Cheryl, opened Steny's, 800 S. Second St., and introduced their signature Bloody.

The Bomb Shelter is a relative new comer in the Walker's Point bar scene, but it's already become one of the top destinations in this near south side neighborhood.
