SWRPC sees increased scrutiny, federal complaints
The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission is getting closer scrutiny these days. The NAACP and the ACLU filed a complaint with the Office of Federal Contract Compliance of the U.S. Department of Labor. According to the ACLU, the complaint came about after SEWRPC said it would not do an outside search for a new director and assistant director.

Local government officials have no greater responsibility than serving as stewards of the land -- after all, they're not making fresh land and water any more -- but some local officials in southeastern Wisconsin are forgetting their role.

Opinion: Metra could chug from Kenosha to Milwaukee by '09
The Metra rail system could be transporting passengers between Kenosha and Milwaukee as soon as 2009. That is, if the advocates in Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha counties can find enough fiscal fuel to fire up the economic engine.
