As Milwaukee Running Festival approaches, tips from a pro

When the PNC Milwaukee Running Festival kicks off Oct. 31-Nov. 1 in Milwaukee, South Milwaukee native Lauren Kleppin, a professional runner who trains in Arizona, will be on hand to cheer. We asked Kleppin, who is a favorite to make the U.S. Olympics marathon team, for some advice for runners.


First-ever Milwaukee marathon draws youth into running

Seven middle school runners paused as they finished their lap in front of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School, their labored breathing switching to laughter and another burst of youthful energy. These students from King, according to a Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service report, are just a fraction of the more than 120 voluntarily participating in the Kids Run Milwaukee program this fall, an outreach effort of the first annual Milwaukee Running Festival.

The GIVE Shirt Runathon gives around the world

Many people will find it easier to wrap their heads around the idea of a 24-hour run than to grasp what Thomas Budde seeks to accomplish with a charity called The GIVE Shirt. Larger nonprofits raise millions to fight cancer, save endangered species or fight domestic violence. Budde raises thousands, primarily to encourage people to give. Give what? Whatever they can.
