Packers, Edvest team up to keep kids reading

The "Leap into Reading" campaign begins today, and is meant to keep kids into books throughout the summer so they don't fall behind in class when school resumes. To help the initiative, the Green Bay Packers and the Edvest College Savings Plan are teaming up with Wisconsin public libraries to award ticket and saving accounts to kids who participate.

I'm not very good at lists. I read far too many books and listen to far too much music to ever successfully narrow things down to 10. But the key is to make your list without thinking too hard about it.

1998: a year in books

When Molly Snyder asked about how I've changed since 1998 - the year OnMilwaukee.com was founded - I mentioned that I still read books printed on paper. And, in a habit I picked up from my friend Daniel Goldin, I keep a list of the books I read. Peeking back at that list, I was reminded of how my life has changed. Back in the 1990s and early 2000s, before I had kids, I read a lot more books than I do nowadays.

For SHARP students, learning is bee-utiful

The latest SHARP Literacy We Love to Learn book, entitled, "A Busy Bee: The Story of Bella the Honey Bee," landed the students' artwork in the Milwaukee Art Museum. Students from 13 schools joined forces to create 500 images depicting scenes from the book, which were then appliqued to four quilts now on display at the Milwaukee Art Museum.
