Italian "tweats" at The Pasta Tree
Last night I tweeted from the first installment of The Pasta Tree's proposed 20-dinner series, "Discovering Italy One Region at a Time," which featured the northwestern region of Piemonte, where my roots lie.

OnMilwaukee.com Recommends: June 18, 2008
The warmer weather and thoughts of the first beer of Summerfest have inspired an eclectic array of recommendations this week in the editorial office. From a flavorful twist on a time-honored snack like sunflower seeds (pictured), to a book about wine, a chilling collection of photos, a tasty burger, a convenient breath-freshener and a great shoe sale and repair shop, we've got you covered.

Feker takes Il Mito to Piemonte
While I might quibble a little with the menu -- being a Piemontese purist and all -- I'm happy that Il Mito Enoteca hosts a "Regional Tour of the tastes of Piedmont" dinner on Friday, Nov. 21 beginning at 7 p.m. I bet Chef Michael Feker will uncork some great barberas for the occasion.

Daily dish: Supa Barbetta recycles stale bread
Eldina Long and Erica Malan of Italy's Gruppo Teatro Angrogna, from the town of Angrogna in the Val Pellice west of the Piedmontese capital of Turin, were at Festa Italiana last summer to do demonstrations of the classic "cucina povera" soup from their area.

Daily dish: Bagna caoda con peperoni
Bagna caoda (which translates to hot bath) is a traditional cold-weather Piedmontese dish that is enjoyed in groups, like fondue. I prefer to present it in another way: atop roasted red, yellow and orange peppers.

If you could choose, would you prefer December or March to stay warm and snowless in Milwaukee?
December. I'm not ready for winter yet.
March. By then, I need winter to be over.
There's no use complaining or hoping for better weather in Wisconsin.
Actually, I like snow.
