Doria Russell's novel shares real-life tales of humanity
An Italian-American by birth and a Jew by choice, Mary Doria Russell embarked on writing "A Thread of Grace" after reading Alexander Stille's book about Jews in Italy, "Benevolence and Betrayal." For her, the story of Italians' treatment of the Jews struck a deep chord.
