Chef profile: Rich Alvarado of 5 O'Clock Steakhouse
When the Coerper family sold the Five O'Clock Steakhouse, 2416 W. State St., a few years back -- after a half-century in the business -- Executive Chef Rich Alvarado stayed on in the kitchen. The result is that despite the change in name (Coerper's is no longer part of the moniker) and change in ownership, the steak remains the same.

Milwaukee's best steak, 2008: 5 O'Clock Steakhouse
Milwaukee diners love steak. And, they love the Five O'Clock Steakhouse, a repeat winner of our annual award. The venerable 5 O'Clock, located at 2416 W. State St., has served huge hunks of perfectly seared, lightly crusted and flavorful meat for more than four decades. Neither the ambience nor the décor -- straight out of the '60s -- has changed much.

Not much has changed at classic Five O'Clock steak house
Steaks and other items at the “new” Five O’Clock Club, 2416 W. State St., remain, quite frankly, if not the best in town, some of the very best, and service here has taken great strides to soften the steakhouse’s once gruff reputation.
