The Mighty Lumberhorn still shaking the shacks
Although Milwaukee's The Mighty Lumberhorn hasn't released an "official" CD in four years, the down-home hillbilly outfit -- that invented its own instrument and then named the band after it -- hasn't gone anywhere. In fact, The Mighty Lumberhorn returns with its second studio disc, "Lumberhorn Presents ... Nothing Ever Happened," which gets its official release with a gig at Linneman's Riverwest Inn on Dec. 19

Ravel raves about The Jones Street Boys
Brooklyn bluegrass purveyors The Jones Street Boys come to Shank Hall on Thursday, Dec. 20 for an 8 p.m. show and Alverno Presents' main man David Ravel wants you to go. So much so, that he's been a one-man street team, sending out e-mails urging folks to go see the rootsy quartet with the sweet harmonies.

Salt Creek's music proves rules are made to be broken
While you might get away with labeling Milwaukee's Salt Creek a bluegrass-influenced band, purists might not agree. But that's just fine with the band. As the new "Live" CD (ITMFA Records) proves, this is a band that lives for the moment and values the tightrope artistry of improvisation.
