The western suburbs encompasses a lot of municipalities and neighborhoods, so we know this was a difficult category. But, OnMilwaukee.com readers made no bones about their favorite watering hole west of the city limits.

Because not all of Milwaukee's noteworthy watering holes fall within the city limits, this year we tried something new and decided to give a shout-out to the 'burbs. The response was overwhelming and it was a tight race, but in the end Club Paragon, 3578 S. 108th St., in Greenfield, emerged victorious.

The readers of OnMilwaukee.com chose the Village Pub the best bar in Milwaukee's northern suburbs ... and we agree. In the rapidly growing entertainment area at the intersection of Oakland and Kensington in Shorewood, the Village Pub, 4488 N. Oakland Ave., is a mainstay. It outlasted the old Shorewood Inn, which became The Brit Inn and has been closed since May 2009 because of a fire.

Once again, The Bomb Shelter was voted as the top drinking destination in this near South Side neighborhood. With its brewing memorabilia decor and classic Milwaukee beers the Bomb Shelter pays homage to the city's brewing history while also stocking an incredible selection of beer.

It was a close race this year, but the Safe House has stolen Water Street's top bar cred from longstanding champ Trinity Three Irish Pubs.
