On the afternoon of Nov. 30, 1936, people at the busy Downtown intersection of 3rd and Wells Streets were startled by the appearance of a gorilla walking a lion. The former was actually a familiar enough sight in Milwaukee, as William "Gorilla" Jones was a famous boxer who'd fought in Milwaukee seven times. The latter, however, was new.

I love the Milwaukee lion. I love it as a story, and I love it as a community bridge. The Milwaukee lion has actually accomplished something exceptionally rare in Wisconsin these days: It's uniting people, and it's given us a common conversation. And I think it would be sheer genius if officials captured the Milwaukee lion and put the lion in the Milwaukee County Zoo.

2015 is shaping up to be a world tour of beloved classic rock stars. The Rolling Stones are expected to announce a Milwaukee stop ... at some point. Ringo Starr is heading to the Riverside in October, the same month The Who will celebrate its 50th anniversary at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Also celebrating 50 years of existence: Pink Floyd, hitting the Riverside stage Thursday and Friday night. Well, kind of - in the form of tribute band Brit Floyd.

Amani resident Ba Ba El is impressed with the Wisconsin Humane Society's (WHS) commitment to educating neighborhood residents while offering free services for their pets. Those educational efforts, according to a report by Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service, have helped raise the rate of spayed and neutered pets dramatically in Amani and surrounding neighborhoods.
