Barrett, Donovan release statements after Manney appeal
Last night, a panel comprised of three Milwaukee Police and Fire Commission members upheld the decision to fire Officer Christopher Manney, who shot and killed Dontre Hamilton during a confrontation in Red Arrow Park last April. Mayor Tom Barrett and Ald. Bob Donovan both released statements in response to the panel's verdict.

After the success of last year's traveling beer garden - selling more than 35,000 beers, nearly 6,000 sodas and 2,300 root beer floats, in the process raising almost $250,000 toward improving Milwaukee County's parks - County Executive Chris Abele announced today that a second traveling beer garden tour will be added for the upcoming summer season.

Streetcar opposition is lousy with false dichotomies
In an ad, Nate Hamilton puts forward a textbook false dichotomy. A false dichotomy is just what it sounds like, with a speaker suggesting a false choice or saying that there are only two possible positions on an issue. Though he phrases his call for opposition almost as revenge for his brother's killing, his implication is clearly that the streetcar will proceed only at the expense of justice, or the other way around -- stopping the streetcar will bring about the justice he seeks. But that's just not true.

Chisholm's controversial Hamilton decision required courage
District Attorney John Chisholm could've taken the easy way out and filed charges in the Dontre Hamilton shooting. Instead, he looked at the evidence and made his call, which was an example of a profile in courage.
