Gov. Walker: "Jock tax" will put $220 million into new arena
Gov. Scott Walker announced a plan to funnel $220 million of tax money into a new multi-purpose arena in Downtown Milwaukee. He said the money will come from a "jock tax" on professional athletes who play in Wisconsin.

Walker's teacher licensing program is a bad idea and another attack on unions
The "Scott Walker thing" in question is the plan our governor is putting in his budget to allow people with "real-life experience" to become licensed public school teachers, potentially without even a lick of training, student teaching, or other assurance that those people know a single thing about teaching. It's easy to guess why Walker is proposing such a thing -- I'll get to that in a minute -- but let me explain why I agree with my student teacher that it's a terrible idea.

J. Lo's "The Boy Next Door": Take a pass on these cookies
As a gender-swapped sexy stalker thriller in the vein of "Fatal Attraction," "The Boy Next Door" is about as dead in the water as Michael Douglas' infamous pet bunny. However, as a tawdry slab of silly, giggle-inducing camp, "The Boy Next Door" scores more laughs than most intentional comedies. There's entertainment to be found here - cue the cookie-related innuendos - just never particularly of the variety the filmmakers were going for.

After heading into the heart of the South in "The Beautiful Music All Around Us," the Milwaukee Rep now travels up to Southie in Boston, the home of the Ben Affleck, the Red Sox, pahking the cahr in Hahvahd Yahd and David Lindsay-Abaire's "Good People." Taking over the award-winning role of Margie in the Rep's production is Milwaukee actress and director Laura Gordon, but it's not her first go around with the street smart Southie native.
