Fellow Milwaukeeans, spring will come. I have hope, and recent buzz of George Webb promotions returning during the Brewer's season is an encouraging reminder that winter shall pass. Read below to boost your spirits and tempt your tastebuds.

George Webb Restaurants is firing up the grills to help shake off some of the winter’s blues. For the first time, George Webb is offering its popular 6-for-5 burger promotion during Spring Training. Each time the Milwaukee Brewers score five or more runs during a game, George Webb will serve customers six hamburgers for $5 until midnight the following day.

The George Webb 6-for-5 burger promotion has been in play since 2003. Last season, the Brewers scored five or more runs 75 times.

In addition to extending the 6-for-5 season, George Webb will continue to promise free Webb burgers to the home crowd when the Brewers win 12 in a row. It was back in the 1940s when George Webb started the prediction and it has become the restaurant chain’s most memorable campaign. When the Braves moved to Milwaukee from Boston in 1953, a prediction of 12 wins in a row was painted on the Webb restaurant walls and advertised in newspapers.

On Easter Sunday, April 19, 1987, the prediction came true. Although Webb had never said what he’d do if the Brewers won 12 straight, three days later George Webb restaurants were handing out fresh Webb burgers to residents throughout the state. On April 22, George Webb Restaurants served 168,194 free hamburgers to celebratory fans, from noon to 8 p.m.

2008 is also the year George Webb celebrates 60 years in Milwaukee.

Founded in 1948 at the corner of Ogden and Van Buren streets in Milwaukee, the company is credited as the first 24-hour restaurant chain in Milwaukee.
Pilates For Parkinsons

Jen Emold, Pilates Director at North Shore Elite Fitness & Racquet Club, 5750 N. Glen Park Rd. in Glendale, recently visited with researchers and physical trainers at the Evelyn F. and William L. McKnight Brain Institute, University of Florida-Gainsville, to learn more about using the Pilates Method to improve the flexibility, strength, and balance of people with Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Schlerosis and other movement disorders.

“Movement is important to a person’s overall strength and health,” said Jen Emold. “I want to do more to increase the longevity and quality of life for my clients who suffer from these dibilitating diseases.”

Emold believes the Pilates Method is particularly condusive to helping people with movement disorders. Pilates is a low-impact, non-abrasive exercise program that can help individuals improve and maintain their range of motion, balance and coordination. It also helps develop the mental principles of concentration, repetition and relaxation. In three months, she has seen enormous improvement in one of her own clients using Pilates to offset some of the symptoms of Parkinson’s.

Emold’s uncle, Dennis Steindler, is the executive director at the McKnight Brain Institute of the University of Florida, one of the nation's most comprehensive and technologically advanced centers devoted to neuroscience. She was invited to observe and talk with the physical trainers at the Movement Disorders Clinic in September, and will return in spring 2008 to learn more. Emold offers private, individualized sessions for people with movement disorders. For more information, contact Emold at 414-351-2900.

When Wauwatosa resident Danielle Horner began building her “Race for the Cure” team this past May, she simply wanted a 25-member team to raise $1,000 to help in the battle against breast cancer. With the support of her family and friends at Elite Fitness & Racquet Clubs, Danielle and her siblings, who lost their mother to breast cancer earlier this year, produced an 88-member community team, raising nearly $12,000 and placing third in the 2007 Susan G.
