Milwaukee Bonecrushers Look to make it two in a row

The Milwaukee Bonecrushers look to put together back to back wins Friday night as they play host to the Rock River Raptors at 7:30pm at the US Cellular Arena.

The Bonecrushers, led by Quarterback Brian Ryczkowski, are coming off a hard fought 51-46 win over the Muskegon Thunder last Saturday. The victory on the road marked the first franchise win for the team, which has undergone many changes since starting the season 9 weeks ago.

Last Saturday the Raptors capitalized on 5 kickoff returns for touchdown, plus a missed field goal for a TD in a 68-39 drubbing of the Flint Phantoms.

Ryczkowski, formerly of the UW-Whitewater Warhawks, leads a potent offense which includes Bryan Jennings Jr, Dorian Palmer, Sam D'Alie and Jim Leszczynski against a Rock River Raptors team which is battling for a CIFL playoff berth. Defensive stall worth James Cichon will lead the Bonecrushers defense, attempting to shut down the Raptors who were only able to put up 146 offensive yards last week against Flint.
Bonecrushers feel the Sting, fall to 0-7

After a furious comeback at the Boneyard on Sunday, the Milwaukee Bonecrushers offense struggled to get on track in a 51-28 loss to the Saginaw Sting Wednesday night in Saginaw Michigan.

Dropped passes by the Bonecrushers receivers spelled doom for an offense that seemed to have found itself in the amazing 28 point second half comeback against Miami Valley.

With the loss the Bonecrushers fall to 0-7 in the Western Division of the Great Lakes conference, with Saginaw breaking a two game losing streak and improving to 6-2

The Bonecrushers have nine days to get ready for their next road match-up on Friday May 9th at the New Jersey Revolution.

Bonecrushers fall short after 4th quarter comeback

The Milwaukee Bonecrushers fell just short Sunday afternoon at The U.S. Cellular Arena with a 43-42 loss to the Miami Valley Silverbacks. After a slow start and being down as much as 43-14 at one point they clawed their way back.

The second half was owned by the Bonecrushers by shutting Miami down for the last 22 minutes and scoring the games final 28 points.

The second half swing started for the Bonecrushers on an 33 yard interception return for a touchdown by linebacker James Cichon who snatched a pass out of the air from Silverback quarterback George Murray.

The Bonecrusher offense, led by second half touchdowns by running back Brian Sylvas and receivers Dorian Palmer and Jim Leszczynski fought back from the 29 point deficit. The late surge was not enough to overcome, despite battling back within one point with one minute remaining.

Bonecrushers QB Cody Craig threw for four touchdowns on the day that the Bonecrushers dedicated the game to teammate Jamie Isome. Isome suffered a concussion two weeks ago after hitting his head on the field in Marion Ohio. Subsequent evaluation let to the discovery of a brain tumor was surgically removed a few days later.

Cabral's hat trick leads Baltimore to MISL Championship

Denison Cabral notched a hat trick leading the Baltimore Blast to a 14-11 win over La Raza de Monterrey in the MISL Championship game Saturday night at the US Cellular Arena.

Monterrey jumped out to a hot start with a 6-2 lead after the first quarter, but goals by Cabral and Carlos Garcia in the second period tied the title game at 6-6 at the half. After trading goals by Baltimore's Giuliano Celenza and Monterrey defender Carlos Pichardo, Baltimore rattled off two quick fire goals in 12 seconds by Garcia and Cabral to jump out to a 12-8 third quarter lead.

Baltimore could not clinch the victory until 2:03 remaining in the fourth when Lucio Gonzaga drilled a shot to the right corner of the goal past Monterrey rookie goalkeeper Jose Bontti to give the Blast a 14-11 lead. The first year LaRaza battled until the end with Jose Luis Birche nailing a 3-pointer with six ticks left on the clock, but it was too little to late.

Cabral's hat trick not only lead Baltimore to it's fourth title in six years (2003, 2004 & 2006) but also earned him championship game MVP honors.

Monterrey's scoring was led by a pair of goals and an assist from Byron Alvarez.

The Brewers bandwagon

26-15, first place in the NL central by 5 ½ games and the third best record in baseball.

That is where our beloved Milwaukee Brewers are standing.

But what is the great majority of talk going on around Milwaukee Sports radio?? Brett Favre!!!

Now don’t get me wrong…I am a Packer Fan, have been my whole life, but it is May 17th. We have a baseball team that is on the verge of doing something it has not done in 25 years…and we are focusing on the quarterback of our football team that won’t play for another 4 ½ months???

Maybe this explains all the bandwagon jumpers over the last week. Yes the Brew Crew struggled on their recent East coast road swing, going 2-5. Does this mean it is time to give up on the team?? Absolutely not. There are still 121 games left in this season. Even if they go .500 the rest of the way, they will finish 87-75, 12 games over .500 and will probably win the division. All good teams run into rough spots, this one was theirs.

To all of you out there that have started to pack it in for the season, and are starting to compare this team to the Brewers of the past few years I say this:

Do not come back and say you have been supporting them all season, when they make a run for the NL Central title. When this team is 5 games up in mid-August, don’t start wearing you retro logo hat, JJ Hardy T-shirt and foam finger. Once you get off the band wagon, you have given up your seat for the rest of the season.

I have been a dedicated Brewers fan for 32 of my 37 years, watching this team be a string point in the old AL east, then having the up and down years in the mid 80’s, faltering and struggling through the 90’s and early 00’s. No matter how bad things got, I made an effort to go to the games and support the team.

This bus is moving fast, so when the door opens for the fair weather, I like them when they are winning fans, remember to tuck and roll and get out of the way. The Brewer 2007 bus is rolling and we will run you over!!

What really needs to be done in Milwaukee this summer

Jasmine Owens, a sweet smiling 4 year old girl, jump roping and playing in her front yard on a beautiful Milwaukee spring night. Suddenly gunshots ring out and her life is taken away from her.

We have all either seen or heard about this tragic story, one of a growing number in recent memory. This is not about the African-amercan community, the neighborhood or race relations. This is about a city, as a whole that is falling apart at the seams and no one is doing anything about it.

Yes the mayor and the police cheief rolled out a plan of action for this summer....yes community leaders have spoken out and even residents of this neighborhoods have complained about the guns and violence.

But the questions remains...is anyone really doing anything about it?

The guns are still on the street, the violence is reaching every corner of our city, the people behind this are still running rampant. Who is to blame?

First I blame the parents...where are they? It doesn't matter if you are white, yellow, black, green, or purple...you have a responsibility..if you have a child, be actively and positively involved in their lives.

Next I blame the city officials...yes they come up with these great plans to stop things, but hwat effect has it had over the past few years? Little to none.

The MPS schools....yes our beloved schools...I do not know where the MPS heirarchy's priorities are...but it is not with the children and educating them. Not all the schools are bad, but it seems like the good ones are dwindling away.

The neighborhood churches and the religious leaders? WHERE ARE YOU?? The churches need to unite and bring the word of Christ to the people that need it most.

I've heard promotions to "Take Back Miller Park" for our Milwaukee Brewers...this is all well and good, but we need to Take Back our city. Will we continue to let the thugs, pinks, thieves and murders run our city, or will we all finally step up, unite and take back our hometown...one neighborhood at a time.

I encourage any leaders out there, from political, ethnic, social, neighborhood, church and other groups...find a away to reach out to the community around you. Empower them with positive words and deeds and let us take back our streets.

From the southside, to Merrill Hills...from our lakefront to Riverwest and every street in between...let us make 2007 (or what is left of it) the year Milwaukee is no longer front page because of violence, crime and scandal, but more of positive living and leadership that raises our community from the ashes to the great city it once was and can be again!
