Prom. Oh My. It is a event months in the planning. At least. Today a huge prom, around 400 people strong, came to my place of work. There was tulle, glitter, sparkle and luxury for days. Every color of the rainbow plus some hues only found in imaginations of Dr Seuss, or someones hyped up imagination. Some dresses were quite conservative, and others were very...out there. Some girls looked like ready for their wedding day, others could have gone to the club. Some serious, some flirty, some classy, some sassy. If I had a tenth of what they spent on dresses, hair, nails, transportaion, food, tuxes and pre/post parties... not to mention all kinds of body primping beforehand...I would have it made.
Personally I dont have some prom memories to share. But I do have a story to tell on the subject. I was very anti prom. I mean prom is great, if your into that. But since Im not a dancer, and I would prefer to show at a thrift or other place rather than spend a ton on just one night. However on the day of prom, which was held at the Domes which is just blocks from my house, I jumped in a car with my then best friend, in our street clothes, and drove over. Once there we went in, used the bathroom, chatted to a few people, and left. Thats it. Out apperance. I think that was senior year. Junior year I didnt bother at all, but my then friend went with a mutual friend, who may or may not have went on and on about wanting to go to prom with someone else. There was alot of people that wanted me to go but it just wasnt for me. There was even some small running joke that people would gang up and vote me to homecoming court so I would have to go. Thanksfully that didnt pan out. Then again I was part of the first graduating class of that mps school, so alot of people were super excited about having a prom even.
I just hope that the people that did go to prom had a good time, those who didnt werent hassled, and that no one stayed home because they didnt have a date, going stag is always a option. I probaly would have gone stag if it was a option. I also hope people were kind to each other during prom and respectful to the facilities that they went to. I also hope there wasnt alot of prom babies. But Ill stop there, because that is a whole other blog.
