Indulging in Downtown Dining Week
If you’re like me, you tend to be a creature of habit. I’ll play my favorite band’s album over and over till it’s worn out. I’ll watch the same TV shows until I can practically quote them line for line. And of course, I’ll go to the same bars and restaurants and most likely order the same item every time.
Luckily Milwaukee has found a solution to my “same old, same old” attitude, at least when it comes to dining anyway. Downtown Dining Week is your opportunity to shake the dust off your tastebuds and explore all the culinary treats Cream City has to offer.
So for my first Downtown Dining experience I went with a bunch of my friends to the aptly named Indulge (708 N. Milwaukee St.). This was my first visit to this stylish yet casual wine bar. Indulge features over 300 wines, artisan cheeses and literally a wall of mouthwatering handmade truffles. When we were seated we were given a free sample of the daily wine special. I won’t pretend to know the first thing about wine, but far be it for me to pass up free liquor!
As part of Dining Week the participating restaurants present a variety of preselected menu options at reduced prices. This is one of the main draws of Downtown Dining Week. You can try out dining venues you may or may not typically be able to afford. Indulge’s Dining Week menu cost $20 and bought you a free glass of sparkling wine, your choice of an appetizer, entrée and a dessert.
I tried a very tasty French riesling to go with my appetizer fruit plate drizzled with a honey truffle glaze. For my main dish I enjoyed a wonderful chorizo ham and gruyère baguette with Dijon aioli spread. Of course dinner wouldn’t be complete without dessert and Indulge offered up an incredible triple chocolate cupcake. My friends and I agreed that despite the upscale selections on the menu, the choice of classic rock and contemporary pop dining music was a pleasant juxtaposition. Next time Downtown Dining Week rolls around, do yourself a favor, get out of your rut and treat yourself to a little fine dining!
