I'm headed to Chicago for a ladies' weekend this Saturday. I would love for some suggestions for a place to eat dinner Saturday night. We are staying at the Intercontinental on N. Michigan Ave, so I am looking for something in that neighborhood. I am looking for a place to have a couple of glasses of wine with a great meal. Obviously willing to spend some money but nothing too outrageously priced. I am not very familiar with Chicago, so I would really appreciate some suggestions so I don't spend a lot of money on a meal that's fairly average.

I decided on a place called Carnivale near the west side. My hair dresser suggested it. There was nothing but great reviews online and the actual space looked really neat from the website. By Friday when I tried making reservations the place was booked until 9:30. When we actually got there, the space was very cool and had a great busy vibe to it. The drinks were strong, and the food was great. They did a great job of mixing ingredients you don't usually see being put together. The unusual combinations made for great texture, taste, and look of the various dishes. Our waiter was very knowledgable. Despite being busy, the place was ran very well. Only complaint is the typical attitude you sometime get from the Chicago locals. This place is a little off the beaten path and they did not appreciate the Wisconsin tourist at THEIR restaurant.

My favorite dinner spot when I am doing a chicks' weekend in Chicago is the Saloon Steakhouse (saloonsteakhouse.com). Very old school and clubby and un-touristy. Located just east of the Hancock Center at 200 E. Chestnut. Steaks and sides are large (and delicious), They will happily split the steak and I would also recommend splitting a couple a sides. Leave your diet at the door - or just walk it off! You can make your reservation on opentable.com.

You could always go have dinner and/or drinks at the Signature Room on 95th floor of the Hanhock. Table 52 is good fancy "comfort food." My cousin whose a chef loves http://www.avecrestaurant.com/ . With two you should be okay even if you have to wait a little.
