While Milwaukee Street's hot spot section of restaurants and bars is our latest favorite place to go for dinner and cocktails after wrestling with construction through the Marquette interchange from Pewaukee, we have high hopes the excitement wont die down anytime soon and that more places will continue to pop up in the vacant locations.
This past week we finally made it to Carnivore. While waiting at the bar for friends to arrive we had great service by the busy bar staff. Which is nice considering not only are they challenged with the long narrow bar but also have to deal with the beautiful but very fragile glasses that are easily broken (mine had a small chip on it too).
All these locations are challenged by the long narrow spaces but I thought the atmosphere was both sleek and a little too dim (lots of dark colors and low lighting on the main floor). I would highly suggest to anyone going not to request the main floor dinning room as it is a maze of traffic, with no privacy. Although the tall bamboo acts as a buffer to the bathrooms (one person at a time only) you still see them loud and clear from both the bar and the main dining area. If you plan on using them and the are occupied you will have to stand at the edge of the dining room with table of people right next to you. Awkward!
Now for the best part! We sat at t he top tier of the restaurant which we enjoyed the atmosphere of and our wait staff was wonderful. Nothing like getting looked right in the eye while the specials are being delivered with complete knowledge of the items and when asking for wine suggestions similar to wine you are familiar with getting something new and fabulous recommended. The food overall was good but I think they need to step up their creative juices with the menu to keep people coming back for more and not going to their favorite steak house instead.
Looking forward to Milwaukee Streets BOOM continuing and Carnivore good luck keeping up with the competition!
