State Senator Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) authored a bill that needs to be defeated.
The proposal stipulates that zip codes could no longer be a factor in setting insurance rates. This essentially is nothing more than *another* tax to support crime-ridden urban areas.
Mandatory car insurance is a step in the right direction for Wisconsin, but trying to normalize the cost by increasing premiums everyone other than heavily urbanized areas is a huge step back.
Living in an urban area has a certain cost of living, a cost of living which should be absorbed by the people who live there--not people who have chosen not to live there.
We've had enough income redistribution methodologies as of late. This is one that shouldn't pass, and my sincere hope is that the legislators will come to their collective senses...or if they don't, that Governor Doyle will veto the measure.
Please contact your Assembly Rep (http://www.legis.wisconsin.gov/w3asp/contact/legislatorslist.aspx?house=assembly) and State Senator (http://www.legis.wisconsin.gov/w3asp/contact/legislatorslist.aspx?house=senate) and ask them to vote against this bill.

i would think as a conservative you would want your insurance premium to accurately reflect your driving record and not your nieghbor's.
and if we were talking thousands of dollars instead of hundreds or less, you'd feel the same way?
i doubt it.

sorry sandstorm...
I live in 53202, which is one of the highest insurance rate zip codes in the state. This law will benefit me, but I still think its poor policy.

lol.
again though, if they lowered your property tax to be the same as your neighbor we wouldn't hear a peep from you.
i guess that's not lunacy.
just selective bitching.

speakthetruth--
Don't you get it? Statistical measures, risk analysis and math isn't fair! Why should I have to pay more for things because I chose where I live.
Sandstorm---your comments exemplify liberal lunacy. Thank you for exposing yourself.
