I suppose it's time to let you all in on what I plan on doing once I get to D.C. And that's take pictures. Thousands of pictures. On vacation, I'll average about 300 pictures a day, usually pulling out about 40 ones I actually like. I tote that camera everywhere. I don't bring heaps of equipment but enough to have to keep it in a backpack. I have a couple of lenses, a tripod, 5 spare memory cards, filters, it all gets to be a bit much. My poor girlfriend has to tolerate my lollygagging pace as I either stop to take a picture or to contemplate a scene. Sometimes I'll stop, look around, contemplate, and keep walking without taking a picture. And by sometimes, I mean frequently, maybe always. It takes us about three times as long to do anything. We'll have several tour guides to give us a wide flavor of what D.C. has to offer. My family can give us the D.C. native tour, all the spots that wouldn't be on any tourists list. My best friend can show us the nightlife, the open air concerts, the great places to have a drink. My gf's bf can show us the farmer's markets, the local stores. Each one knows different flavors of such a diverse city. Of course, we'll want to do the big stuff, the super tourist fun. All the while, I'll be whipping out my camera at every chance. Documenting our trip for posterity. That also means I'll be logging about it for ages. Along with this fun little blog, I keep a log of my photography. Its mostly Milwaukee, and sometimes a bit of a travelogue. I keep at it, posting my life for all to see. Linked in to facebook, everyone knows what I'm up to. So, that's what D.C. will be for me. A gift for my girlfriend, who accidentally washed her phone this week, so she can see her best friend whose wedding we had to miss due to a violent insurrection. A chance for me to catch up with my best friend and family, some of which I haven't seen in a decade (man I'm getting old). A chance to post pictures and write about a great trip from a great airline for months to come. And to just have some fun.- jon
