Today I decided to forego my favorite coffee shop to hang out at (aka….I needed some freaking free wifi…gosh darned it!!!) and instead, sat my butt down on the patio of The Wicked Hop…a restaurant/bar in my ‘hood. I’ve never been here alone & after living in the “city” for 10+ years, it’s only the second time I’ve ventured out to have a drink all by my lonesome…and even that last time (over a year ago), I had dragged my dog with me (she’s a cheap date). :)

It’s a great experience, I’ve now discovered. Of course, I have my laptop, earbuds & iPhone. I reckon I’d go nuts if it were just me, a beer & the city swirling around me.  I’ve been here for two hours now & I’m pouting thinking about my laptop’s battery life giving way & me having to go home. I don’t consider myself a “writer” but I do draw little hearts around “WRITING” more times than I’d care to admit (kidding!!!….sort of…..ummm....how does "Sara Hemmingway" sound? No? "Sara Poe"???? No?  Hmmph....). :)  Being in the middle of a bagillion fantastic real human life story lines is quite inspirational (and yes…I’m sure I’m very late to this inspiration party….but I brought beer!!!!………hmmmph.). 

Take the two guys on the corner right now….one has business attire & way too many bags….the other, a plaid shirt, jeans, and obnoxious white tennis shoes…..seems to have some sort of score to settle with the business attired, bag holding man.  Innnnneresting.  Or the construction crew across from me. There’s two dudes who never seem to do much of anything…except stare at girls passing by or check their cellphones. How does a person get that job?? 

And, as I've been casually observing them, I’ve noticed quite a number of folks taking an interest in me as well.  Probably wondering what my story is.  Is she a student? Probably a student. Would you just take a look at that hair? Sheesh...kids these days! (side note...I'm 29 & sooo not a student!) What’s with the hat? Drinking a bloody mary on a Monday at 3:30 p.m.?  The nerve!!  

Perhaps someone is writing on their blog about the blonde haired gal with pig tails & a striped hat sitting on the patio on the corner of Broadway & St. Paul in Milwaukee, typing away at her MacBook……..I can only hope!  That would be one creative circle jerk I'd be happy to be apart of...and yes...I just really made that reference. 

Really, I could sit here all day.  Soaking up the sounds & stories of the city. My little city. Maybe I’ll go home, charge up the laptop & come back. :) There’s sooo many stories to tell and/or speculate about & only so much time.  

I’m going to call these observations…..me…..out in the city alone…..Sara & the City.  I hope there’s lots more to come! :)
