When the people of Oaxaca decided they had enough of bad government they didn't take their story to the media they TOOK the media.
On Thursday March 19, the MTEA (Milwaukee Teacher Education Association) will host its first Movie Night, featuring the documentary Un Poquito de Tanta Verdad (A Little Bit of So Much Truth).
This documentary features the particpants of the wide spread uprising in Oaxaca in 2006 that united progressive forces and most interesting to me, as a teacher, was led by teachers and educators.
That's what makes this film so inspiring. Teachers in Mexico, though facing different circumstances also share similar issues and obstacles as teachers do right here in Milwaukee. Whether it be the battle against the onslaught of privitization or the growing testing hysteria, our commonality is evident. Watching this inspiring film of movement building is an event not to be missed for anyone who has an interest in public education.
