I would like to lead this article with a quote. "You wouldn't know a classy broad if she took a dump on you head"
I myself may not be the classiest guy. Heck I just quoted a movie where one of the main characters is named .... well... OnMilwaukee.com is a family website... Anyway, back to me not being classy... I'm not the classiest guy, but what I do know is classy establishments to drink at, and that is what this blog is about.
BUCKLEY'S KISKEAM INN
Located on the corner of Cass and Wells Buckley's provides a cozy, quiet atmosphere that makes a great place to take a "classy broad" or "classy guy". However classy Buckley's may be, it certainly isn't caught up in itself. The owner can be seen waiting, and bussing tables as well as seating patrons. You will recognize him because he kind of looks like the White-haired head IRA bad guy in the movie Patriot Games played by Richard Harris (See Photo). The son of the owner is generally behind the bar serving up bowls of "loud mouth soup" and suds. The suds are what I want to focus on, and are perhaps the real reason why this bar jumped to the top of my list.
Clearly a beer aficionado, Taylor Buckley, the bartender informed me that they will soon be serving one of the greatest beers ever to be brewed in Wisconsin..... drum-roll........ The Great Dayne's very own "Stone of Scone" Scotch Ale. If you love beer, being that you are likely a Milwaukee resident if you are reading this that may be a stupid "if", you have to make a pilgrimage to the Great Dayne (just off the capital square in Madison) to sample its wares. However, if you lack the necessary means the necessary means to travel to Madison then head over to Buckley's for a little sample. Besides serving the great dayne scotch ale, Buckley's also has the Three Floyds Alpha King Pale Ale. I ordered a pint of the aforementioned three floyd's brew, and was blown away. Whatever is in the water in Munster, IN has caused this Alpha King Pale Ale to jump, nay vault, to the top of my favorite beer list (or at least in my top five). It was heaven in a glass and served with a smile.
OK so now that I have you beer drinkers drooling I want to remind you drinking on an empty stomach is somewhat of a gamble. Wait you are in luck. Buckley's also serves some of the BEST fish fry in town on Fridays. After speaking with Mike Buckley, the owner, I got a little background on the dining. First, he said the key to the fish fry was getting the freshest cod he could find. I had just had it, and of course, he was right. Mike is a seasoned restuaranteur as he put it, "this is what I do" (read with a hint of a Massachusetts accent), and it shows.
Mike explained to me how he recruited an old pal, who formerly was cooking in the eateries owned by the famous madison restaurant group "food fight", to bring his skills to the kitchen at Buckely's.
If you aren't into fish, or are allergic as some are, check out the Sunday night BBQ special. A half rack of ribs, a chicken breast, and a skewer of three jumbo shrimp, all sauced up with a absolutely taste bud tingling sauce ($12.95). Let me just say I am a Speed Queen guy (the pork shoulder is life changing), but this sauce was unreal. I think there might have been a little curry in it to give it that unique twinge, but I couldn't ask because well... a magician should never reveal his secrets. Magical though is the only way to describe how good this was. OK, so you don't like BBQ, or fish... According to Taylor and his dad Mike, one of the best things on the menu is the Lobster Bisque... oh I mentioned the Lobster Bisque... So I tried that too. I can afford to be overweight. It did not disappoint just as I expected. Did I mention that Mother Buckley makes the deserts?
The moral of the story here is that the food is fantastic, the atmosphere is great, and the beer is well, as good as it gets. So next time you are looking to grab a bite, or toss back a few "brew dogs" go to Buckley's, but beware it is a pretty small place, and its starting to make a name for itself, so finding a table might be hard.
As an added bonus, I quoted or referenced seven movies or TV shows you can play along at home and try to figure out what 7 I referenced. Hint: One of course is "Patriot Games." Ok go....

Ok. Everyone it's ok. I respectfully disagree with you DVM about blogs and word use. My point was made. It was made clearly. I am not taking an english test, and I am not being paid to write, nor do I have an editor. Maybe you would like to be the editor of all my blogs. That is fine. That is what you have the write to do. Just as i have the write to never right in a way that is using the write words or commas in the write weigh.

Nope, I'm sorry. You are wrong again. A comma is placed after the paren if it would have been needed if you chose not to use parenthesis.
I sound like a jerk right? We'll don't be a jerk to someone else.

I gotta be honest DVM ... Chateaudweller put it on your face like a teenager does with proactive solution. All over, but especially on the chin (sic). That is what you get for trying to correct a blog that has no intention of being written using strict english language rules ...

The use of "sic" requires brackets, not parentheses and is only used for quoted words, not a summary. Also, you forgot to put a comma after "(and huge NFL bust). . . ." Aren't rocks and glass houses fun?

Mike is one of the most genuine salt-of-the-earth guys you'll meet. Always makes you feel welcome. Milwaukee is lucky to have him.
