Jimmy the Groundhog, Wisconsin's official winter weather prognosticator, saw his shadow this morning in Sun Prairie, Wis. There will be six more weeks of winter weather despite this week's mid-winter thaw.
Sun Prairie delcared itself the official Groundhog Capital of the World in 1952 and has been feuding with Punxsutawney, Pa. ever since. According to GroundhogCentral.com, the official site of Jimmy the Groundhog, the controversey was taken as far as the halls of Congress:
"A verbal exchange of Wisconsin and Pennsylvania Congressmen over the controversy is recorded in the Congressional Record of Monday, February 4, 1952."
This is Jimmy's eighth year of predictions. He has an 80% accuracy rate and is the eighth in the line of official Sun Prairie groundhogs.
