Friday January 5th, 2007 - Calgary, AB

More overwhelm today. There’s no way I’m going to be able to finish the whole movie script in the time I’m here. I put a nice dent into it and got some progress made but it will take a lot more work to get it done so it flows well. I don’t want to do it half way. I won’t settle for something I’m not happy with and that will take some time and a lot more work.

I don’t mind working, I just want to make sure I work smart. I have limited time and big goals and every hour counts. Not only am I punching up the movie script I also have all of my Sixty Second Soapbox scripts from when I was on the radio. That was a really popular bit and I did it every day for about a year and I think I can revive it in some form again.

It was a trademark for me on the radio both in Salt Lake City and in Chicago and when I work in both of those places even now I still get people who remember it fondly. I loved the challenge of coming up with something every day but I won’t have to do that for now. I want to come up with a once a week rant about something timeless at first and then as it grows I can worry about doing something daily. I don’t think that’s necessary though. All I want is to use it to get known. With all the pod casts and myspace and U Tube outlets on the internet I hope to make this a trademark in a whole new arena. It fits my style on stage very well too and it’s a chance to get some word of mouth marketing and more exposure.

My friend Cara from The Loop is putting a studio in her house and has some equipment she has generously offered to let me use to record a few to get started. She is also doing a pod cast of her own and asked me to be on it so we’ll do it all next week on the one day I am home before I head back out on the road to San Francisco. I looked through the pile of scripts I did and can reuse a few to get started. I wrote them and they’re timeless so that is a good start but reading through that big pile was a huge job and there’s no way I’ll finish that by next week either. I’ll be able to get a few recorded but again it will be a substantial investment of time and energy if I want to do it right, which I do. Again, time is the issue.

Not only that, I had hoped to work on improving the comedy class worksheets and class outline for the different levels. I haven’t even started that and that also is quite a big job. I love all these things and hope to work on them all this year but with touring and all those things to focus on it’s tough to squeeze everything into a day. I worked very hard not only today but this whole week and it seems like I barely got anything done even though I did.

I also spent some time looking through my archives of notes and ideas and scraps of old ideas I have cataloged in a giant file. I made notes as to what I want to work into the show and there is a ton of things I want to add. I tried to throw in a couple of them tonight but I had my hands full in the first show with a big fat slob biker who heckled everybody to the point of ruining the show. He just would NOT shut up and I gave him all I had. He didn’t get it at all and thought he was helping. I finally just walked off the stage after trying to be polite at first, then nasty, then REALLY nasty, then just angry that he was that stupid. All the rest of the audience felt the same way and Jack the owner gave free tickets for them to come back. Well, everyone except the idiot. The second show was rock solid and red hot.
