Disguisting experience at Yanni's for downtown dining

I just wanted to let all of the wonderful, inquisitive readers out there that enjoy dining as much as I, the truth about Yannis.  I want to preface that I had an enjoyable dining experience last year for downtown dining week.  However, this blog is about my most recent experience.  As I said before, I had been to Yannis once.  A group of my girlfriends and I decided to venture there for downtown dining week.  We went last Friday, the second day that downtown dining began.  I will discuss the matter in the sequence of disasterous events that occurred.

First, we had reservations at 8 pm; however, we were sat a half an hour late (I'm even being generous).  As we sat, our bus boy quickly filled our waters and brought us bread.  He was the only redeeming quality of the whole night.  First, our waiter came out to tell us that the steak on the dining week menu was gone.  So we chose between the salmon and the chicken.  One of my friends ordered a glass of wine that she waited for 20 or so minutes for.  The waiter then made a mistake and brought a different glass of wine.  I do understand that dining week is busy and had slightly lowered my expectations.  I did not expect stellar service,  but I did expect a nice dinner out.

Our entree came out probably an hour after we ordered.  The food was disgraceful, especially for the so called upscale restaurant status of Yannis.  The salmon was not fully cooked and completely over salted.  The chicken was also not cooked properly and the pasta and asparagus were cold.  The waiter never returned to ask how the food was.  I called him over and explained the audacity of the food that we were brought.  He agreed and said that he was embarrassed of the service and lateness of the food.

Next the desert came, which was ice cream, half melted.  I mean how difficult is it to screw up ice cream!  Again, we called over the waiter and insisted that we speak to the manager.  The manager was brought over to our table, listened half heartedly and scurried away.  About 5 minutes later a "torte" was brought to our table.  The torte was pretty much disguisting and was to be shared among the 5 of us.  One of my friends described it as "spam cake".  Sounds tasty, right.

At this point, we were completely frustrated.  The manager did not even listen to our concerns.  We told the waiter to take away the desert.  This time the manager came over and pulled up a chair to our table.  He casually sat and explained that he took 20% off of the bill.  He came back again, pulling up a chair and poured shots.  We were fuming at this point, feeling like we were treated like 21 year old girls that were trying to be shmoozed by this skeezy manager.  He thought he could buy us off with shots.

I guess the most dispicable thing was how unprofessional the management was at this restaurant, along with the blame game between the waiter and the manager.  It was obvious that they did not get along.  We felt disrecpected because of our age and sex.  If we came as couples or with older individuals, we would have received completely different service.  We are professional, trendy women that enjoy eating out.  They completely blew their chance of recurring service.  We would never recommed Yannis to anyone.

And to Yannis, I say that if you can't handle dining week than you should not be involved in it.  And try to make sure your management is disrespecting customers.
