The Milwaukee Tennis & Education Foundation (MTEF) recently awarded tennis scholarships to four Milwaukee children at its 9th Annual MTEF “Tennis Ball.” The four finalists were chosen for their leadership ability and skills in tennis and academics while participating in the MTEF Summer Program. They will each receive free group tennis lessons and membership at any of the four Elite Fitness & Racquet Club locations.
The scholarship recipients include:
Milwaukee resident Devon Page, a 15-year-old sophomore at Marquette University High School
Milwaukee resident Deysha Jenkins, a 14-year-old who attends eigth grade at Brown Deer Middle School
West Milwaukee resident Blake Marlowe, a 13-year-old in eigth grade at
Nathan HaleHigh School and
Milwaukee resident Richard Serna, an 8-year-old in third grade at St. Adalbert’s School.
“These kids demonstrated standout leadership skills in their commitment to the goals of MTEF, their ability to relate and be a role model to others, as well as in their passion for tennis and desire to improve their skills in year-round play,” says Monica Thomas, MTEF TEAM program director and First Serve coordinator.
All of the finalists participated in First Serve’s National Student Athlete Competition. Devon Page won the Boys 18 and under division of the summer season-ending Mayor’s Cup Junior Metro Tournament and Deysha Jenkins was a finalist in the Girls 14 and under division. Mayor Tom Barrett presented the citywide tournament in conjunction with the MPS Recreation Department.
