The Cowboys finally pulled the trigger and got rid of Wade Phillips. It's a move that is too little too late for Dallas, as well as for their hopes of playing in their home stadium for a Super Bowl ring.
Phillips seems like a nice guy, and he could be a good fit for some teams -- just maybe not the Cowboys. The Cowboys have the type of team full of players who are in need of a strong leader. They need a coach who can make personnel decisions, a coach where the chopping block is located in the head coach's office.
What do they have is Jerry Jones playing fantasy football.
Speaking of fantasy football: My team sucks! Cleveland pulled off a shocker this past week in beating New England. Now, my father once said that you celebrate all victories, but tossing Gatorade on head coach Eric Mangini after a win in week nine may be a bit over the line. Now do not get me wrong: I love celebrating in sports. I am a fan of the Prince Fielder explosion home run celebration. What I am saying is the Gatorade shower is a special moment only to be done after winning a championship, and I hope this doesn't become a trend.
The Moss effect: I said earlier this year that Randy Moss would have a huge year. I may be wrong but I feel he may still have a huge impact on his current team. I know through the poor play of my number one fantasy pick, Chris Johnson, that he is not having the kind of year that he or many of those who picked him number one over all thought he would. Now with Moss a deep threat maybe that will take one more person out of the box on defense and free up Johnson for some more yards or a few more catches. At least I hope; they are both on my fantasy team.
Five best teams who have the best chance to win the Super Bowl:
1. New England Patriots
2. New York Giants
3. Green Bay Packers
4. Pittsburgh Steelers
5. New Orleans Saints
BCS Madness: OK, it's about time to add the plus-one championship. This year could be a disaster for the BCS. If The University of NIKE doesn't win out and if Auburn loses in the SEC (both possible), you are going to have a possible two undefeated teams in Boise State and TCU who most likely be ranked lower than a one-loss SEC school.
This could be the year that the NCAA is forced to do something. I know all the people who make the money do not want a Boise State-TCU National Championship Game. Let's be honest, the whole issues with the playoff system is the amount of money the NCAA makes by having bowls. Some one pays the NCAA for the right to have the St. Petersburg bowl, someone pays to show the St. Petersburg bowl on TV, the schools get paid to play in the St. Petersburg bowl. It's all about the money.
Bye, Jon and Joe: Jon Miller and Joe Morgan are out as ESPN baseball play-by-play and color announcers after 21 years. You guys had a great run and I am sure you both will land on your feet. However, I am not sad, as Jon Miller once mispronounced my name on a video game. Come on Jon, do you know how embarrassing it is to have all your friends to call you up and say these two things? "Dude, you suck on this video game" and "They don't even say your name right."
Jon, it's MCCLUNG ... MCC... LUNG Just like its spelled. No hard feelings, Jon, all the best.
Got Questions? I have answers. Maybe. E-mail me, and I will try to answer them in the next few blogs.
Up next: Coming up for my Pinellas Park Girls Basketball team are scrimmage games vs. Dunedin High School and Mitchell High School on Wednesday and Friday. Coaching these girls has been an experience and a great one. We have only two returning players from our whole program last year -- an 0-15 campaign. We are a work in progress and the girls are working very hard. There is nothing better than explaining to one of my ninth graders why they have to dribble the ball before they can take off running.
I liked Miller's voice, just not the announcing. I'm tired of them being condescending to small market teams and the same ol 'oh yeah, it must be the cheese and beer!'. Shut up dudes.
I could see Valentine, Hershiser and someone else, but ESPN should strive to make it a grenade free zone announcer wise..

The playoffs are different in Mexico. The top five teams in each division get in. Currently, Seth McClung's team is in second place with two games to play. They are assured a spot in the playoffs but with just one win in two games they stay out of the 4/5 spot. Those two play in a winner take all one-game playoff.

The Pericos of Puebla Mexico offered Seth McClung a contract to finish out the season in Mexico. Unlike Taiwan they were asking him to pitch out of the bullpen. This excited him because he has have been dominant in the Mexican League this year out of the pen. This team was in first place and they want McClung to come in and help shore up the back end of their bullpen.

Since I was let go from the Uni-Lions in the Taiwan C.P.B.L I am not quite sure what the next step is for me in my professional career. I want to continue to keep playing. I know the stat heads and some fans will laugh but I feel if I am right and if I am given an opportunity I can contribute in the Major Leagues again.

What a whirlwind ride the last few weeks have been. Last time we spoke I mentioned how the Uni-lions of the Taiwan League, a.k.a C.P.B.L., brought in former Brewers pitcher Nelson Figueroa and it was a numbers game to who went home. Well, it was me.

News is spreading around the league that Rhinos slugger Manny Ramirez is heading to Japan to finish the season over in that league. Manny had such a huge impact on this league. His presence fueled a league that has been rocked recently by some scandals. At the same time, former Brewer Nelson Figueroa has arrived on McClung's team.

Today's game has been rained out. I have noticed that it rains almost every six hours here. It's crazy the amount of rain. I have been told that it is normal, so I have been going with the flow. Since I got here, I have watched two games, two off days and three rain outs.

My first day in Taiwan was a long one. My 7 p.m. flight from Tampa to L.A.( five-hour flight with a three-hour layover) to Taipei, Taiwan (14 hours) to Kaohsiung, Taiwan (1 hour) then the 50-minute drive to Tainan ... this seemed to take forever.

Hello again, OnMilwaukee.com readers! Well, I am back posting a little insight to my personal baseball journey. It's been a very long one, from being drafted by the Devil Rays (yes they were the Devil Rays back then) in 1999 to stops in Milwaukee, Miami, Texas back to Milwaukee and even a stop in the Cubs organization.

It was a great run this season. However, in the post-season, the pitching just did not show up. All year, winning all those games came down to a lack of big games from the Brewers' starting pitchers. You can not blame it on the hitting; the defense was not great, but it came down to pitching.
