Starship burns out

Iconic East Side boutique, Starship, 1661 N. Farwell Ave., will close for business at some point this summer. The shop – which features unique clothing and accessories – is currently having a large sale to sell off inventory.

The shop will reopen in a currently undisclosed location. According to a Starship employee, it will be somewhere on the East Side.

Owner James M. Purvis started the business in 1984, and has had several locations over the years. He also owns Starship Tattoo, 4380 S. 76th St.

Selling "hippie clothing" for Starship at Summerfest in the early '90s was one of my first jobs. I still own a tapestry that I bought while working there. Good times. Hazy times.

Stay tuned to OnMilwaukee.com for more information about Starship as it becomes available.

36274 Hm. It's interesting, if you drive by, to note that the real estate sign telling folks the building is for sale also states, "Starship Staying."
