Stevie Wonder, whose musical resume includes 30 top 10 hits and more than 20 Grammy Awards, kicks off Summerfest 2008 with a 7 p.m. show on opening night, Thursday June 26, at the Marcus Amphitheater.
Wonder, an American icon at age 57, is recognized as one of the most influential singers and songwriters of the 20th century. In addition to hits such as "Superstition," "Fingertips" and "Ebony and Ivory," as well as the well-known charity collaborations "We Are The World" and "That's What Friends Are For," Wonder earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammys and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2002.
He also was awarded the Billboard 2004 Century Award. He has also been praised for his contributions to worldwide social and political change.
Wonder is currently working on a new album titled "The Gospel Inspired By Lula," which will deal with the various spiritual and cultural crises facing the world.
Though his Summerfest date wasn't officially announced until today, rumors of Wonder's attendance at the festival began to circulate after his image popped up briefly on Summerfest's Web site. It was removed, but not before some savvy readers saw it and began speculating.
Tickets go on sale at noon Saturday, March 29. Prices are below.
