Summerfest announces bands for new Verge festival
"Verge" got the most votes from the public, so that's the name of the new Summerfest modern rock festival at the Henry Maier Festival Park, Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5.
Other proposed names included Diatonic and Parallel. The winning name was suggested by Katie Kostuck, a senior art director at Kohl's Department Stores.
Currently, Three Days Grace is set to headline Verge Friday night, with Weezer and AFI topping the bill on Saturday.
Other bands announced so far include Crash Kings, Eagles of Death Metal, Cold War Kids, The Raveonettes, Rogue Wave, She & Him, Nico Vega, Reni Lane, Jaill, The Championship, Figureheads, Geri X, Pezzettino, 1956, Red Knife Lottery, Invade Rome, Revision Text and Juniper Tar.
Nice to see some great local bands in the mix.
More acts will be announced soon.
Tickets for the Verge are limited, Summerfest says. Advance tickets are available now through June 3 and are $25 per day or $40 for both days. Advance tickets include a free weekday ticket to Summerfest. Daily Verge tickets will run $35 at the gate.

InTheView and Shelia_D...really?! I have know idea how you haven't heard of any of these bands...and View...if you think Weezer hasn't been good since 1995, you should've stopped by the Eagles Ballroom a couple months ago when they sold it out...these are great ALTERNATIVE acts..She & Him (M.Ward with Zoey Deschennel) are bgecoming huge...new CD this tuesday..AFI..how would you not know them? i guess you might not get good reception under your rock... Probably the same people who are upset with a 'small' act like Lady Gaga coming to the BC (check the posts on that article)...get out there...we know you love the Gufs, Love Monkeys, and 5 card studs...but there's a lot of good music out there beyond the usual Summerfest lineup and the Ale House

Never heard of most of the bands listed so far. I perceive that this festival will be a money loser unless-- you line up some more familiar genre. That's what I think!

Do the people who run summerfest know what alternative music is? just wondering. Weezer is about as alternative as the Monkees and haven't been good since 1995.

So to sum up all the posts in here, the lineup is just ok -- nothing special. There are some gems, but the headliners are a joke (what pisses me off about that is all 3 of those bands just played the Rave in the past year). I hope SF /Bob B/102.1 get the message.
