Getting a jump on summer 2009, Milwaukee World Festival today announced that country veteran George Strait headlines the Marcus Amphitheater on Monday, June 29 during Summerfest.

Strait -- who himself got a jump on the country music world in 1981 when his debut single "Unwound" hit the Top 10 -- debuted his new single, "River of Love," and was honored with the CMA's Single of the Year Award for his mega hit "I Saw God Today" and the CMA Album of the Year Award for "Troubadour" at the recent CMA Awards Show.

Of course, because it's a bit early, on-sale date, ticket prices and opening act for this show aren't yet announced. Check Summerfest.com for details.

Summerfest 2009 takes place June 25-July 5 from noon until midnight daily.

They announced this early due to following: "Summerfest chose to announce the date sooner than usual because the artist was announcing his entire summer tour schedule."

They are announcing this now?? Summerfest is like 8 or so months off?? Heck it isn't 2009 yet! Can't they save the rest of the announcements until we are dying for summer.. i.e. middle of February??
