Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's final major concert event of 2008 took place before a gigantic crowd last month at Harley-Davidson's 105th anniversary party at the Lakefront.
In terms of overall audience, the band's next big gig will make that show seem like a church festival.
The National Football League announced that Springsteen and the E Street Band will headline the halftime show at Super Bowl XLIII, which is slated for Feb. 1 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
The halftime gig, which nearly sparked an international incident when Justin Timberlake exposed Janet Jackson's breast during a famous "wardrobe malfunction" in 2004, draws an audience of nearly 150 million worldwide. NBC will televise the game this year.
The list of past performers include Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, who played a tight set this year in Phoenix, as well as the Rolling Stones, U2, Prince and Paul McCartney.
With help from Wikipedia and other sources, here is a look at Super Bowl halftime shows through the years with themes (where appropriate) and entertainers.
