Thanks Sensei! With knowledge like that, I'll have to get your approval in advance for next year! Last year's lineup made for a great event. But, I'm just as thrilled about the lineup this year. Its full of 2009 WAMI award winners and nominees. Also, the balance of the stages should work out to be great. Fever Marlene can really stand up against nationally touring The Von Bondies. I think that is saying something about the caliber of musicians produced in Milwaukee. We are proud to present this group of bands. Kudos to Milwaukee music, and I can't wait to see you all out on the 20th!

Everybody in and out of the music scene has an opinion, and it's in retrospect we account for what we once perceived as "good taste". I'll not enter the fray regarding a past line-up; it's the past. What I will suggest is that it is quite clear that Summer Soulstice has moved on, and for the better. Here's my contention: we have enough information (those who might call themselves fans of music) to suggest this line-up is a Next-Gen for this burgeoning festival. The Von Bondies, hailing from mondo-rock capital of the U.S., have been blowing up the very finest clubs and stages for over a decade. For a DIY festival it cannot get more apropos than to gig up this act. They will melt faces, period (there's a reason they win headliner sets at places like SXSW). On the opposite stage we are allowed to yet again be spoiled by a band that should rightfully be our latest hometown-pride rock act. They are prolific, creative, and have a knack for the irresistible hook that stays in your headspace to a nearly uncomfortable degree. Who didn't wonder, "what's different this morning," when 88.9 FM retired "Khemitones'" opening line from their promos. They are the first area-band since the Violent Femmes to add three songs to three separate radio stations in the Greater Milwaukee. Don't get me started on my adoration for the genius, groove-rock troubadour that is Ike Reilly. If you've not had a taste; get one. Start with "Hail Hail", move on to "What Ever Happened to the Girl in Me", and THEN write about this allegedly weak line-up. Oh yeah, lest we forget the near perfect release by The Lackloves that is Cathedral Square Park. Perhaps you don't recognize Invade Rome...you may know their quality craft from their days under the name, Freshwater Collins (incidentally, their 2008 release is a mindbender of a record that calls to mind Kings of Leon if they spent a little time with The Eagles of Death Metal). The Buskers are kicking it Live; seems like every fest wants them for their original, and dare I say Blues-influenced take on Roots Rock. Shall I go on? The litmus test for who rocks well is best handled with a beer in your hand and a grin on your face on June 20th, 2009, North Avenue. As the Von Bondies sing, "And know this day these deepened wounds don't heal so fast/Can't hear me croon of a million lies that speak no truth/Of a time gone by that now is through." C'mon. C'mon.

Can't wait to see Fever Marlene! Saw them at Turner Hall and it was an incredible show! Great lineup Soulstice - you put together a hell of a fest. I, for one, will not miss The Love Monkeys.

it's funny how when someone supports original music--local or otherwise--they get accused of being in one of the bands. i'm sure that does happen but...isn't it possible nonband members maybe actually like the line up?

None, Scoobee...and I don't work for the festival either. So hard for you to believe, so astounding to you, so unfathomable to accept that someone actually goes out and listens to something a bit more cutting edge, a bit less "mainstream" and, GASP, actually LIKES SOME OF THOSE BANDS. You're a cliche. It's free and you still complain. Do us a favor and stay home.
