Rhett Miller made a pilgrimage on Sunday.
With free time to kill before a solo gig at Shank Hall, the Old 97's lead singer -- a huge football fan -- made the trip to Green Bay to attend the Packers-Chargers game at Lambeau Field.
Miller attended the game with Dan Lee, a longtime Old 97's fan, and Jamie Glinberg. Miller woke up in Chicago, where he played Friday and Saturday night at Schubas, then drove north to rendezvous with his hosts at his hotel Downtown before driving north on I-43.
"It was awesome," Miller said after his 90-minute set. "I'm so glad I did it. I went to Lambeau! I got to see Brett (Favre) tie the record (for touchdown passes)!"
Lee and Glinberg attended the show at Shank, where Miller culled songs from Old 97's catalog, from his two solo albums and also some unreleased material.
Miller, a clever songwriter and engaging performer, chatted with fans after the show and, like many Packers fans, was thrilled to hear that the Cowboys beat the Bears.
"It's been a great day," he said.
