Watching #scrubs and rebooting servers, for 2 hours?? Either I am really, really behind, or #microsoftfails!

  • iamtheaj:
I don't care for the set design or insane brightness of season 9 of Scrubs. It's a small complaint as the stories and characters are solid.

  • floparisoakes:
@gfmorris are you talking about Scrubs in general?..or the later seasons? We LOVED the first 2 seasons. After that it got painful to watch.

  • bluegist5:

At this moment, the musicians in the band Random Maxx do not have a gig scheduled for Oct. 25.

Like all Milwaukee musicians, they'll be ready if something big comes along.

If not, well, they've got plans.

Oct. 25 is the season premiere of the NBC sitcom "Scrubs," and former Random Maxx keyboardist Mary Morales is slated to be on that episode, and others this season, as an extra.

"I think she plays a medical technician or an anesthesiologist; I'm not sure which," Random Maxx bass player Matty Phillips said of Morales. "She doesn't have any speaking parts, but people who know here, if they look closely enough, will be able to recognize her in the background."

Morales will, of course, be wearing surgical scrubs.

From August 2004 until October of last year, Morales played in Random Maxx along with Phillips, guitarist Mark Redlich and guitarist / percussionist Bo Johnson.

"She joined the band when we were getting ready to do 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch' at the Milwaukee Chamber Theatre," Phillips said.

Random Maxx, described as a "vocal power pop band," provided the live score for that show, a "Rocky Horror"-like tale of a fictional rock band fronted by an East German transgender singer. OnMilwaukee.com's review of the performance credited Morales' performance.

"Although they have virtually no lines, the band members create intriguing and humorous characters through their playing style, costumes and facial expressions, most notably keyboardist Mary Morales," Molly Snyder Edler wrote. (Click here to read the complete review).

Morales, who did not grow up in Wisconsin, wasn't the only Random Maxx member with acting chops. Redlich performed with the Kids from Wisconsin as a youngster and is currently a weekend performer with ComedySportz. Johnson was a theater arts major at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and has worked with the Chamber Theatre and the Milwaukee Shakespeare Company.

Morales is the first, however, to become an extra on a hit sitcom.

"She's acting and she also does some independent solo music. She plays guitar.

"It wouldn't surprise me if it kept blossoming from here," Phillips said. "She's acting out there and she also does some independent solo music. She plays guitar. But, she always liked acting.

"It wouldn't surprise me if she became 20 times more famous."

Whatever Morales does, her former bandmates in Random Maxx will be watching.

"We're really happy for her, but at the same time it makes us sad that she left us because she is so talented," Phillips said. "It hits home even more now."
