Hey, hey. It's an exciting week in music here in Milwaukee. The new and improved Cactus Club re-opens with a huge show by Decibully and Kid, You'll Move Mountains on Saturday, Aug. 11. What else is going on? Listen to the Local Music Podcast and find out.
Milwaukee's Dark Horse Project opens at 10 p.m. show for Nashville's Pale Blue Dot on Friday, Aug. 10 at the B.B.C. Upper Level. The Dark Horse Project, as you may know, was founded a few years back by Liv Mueller, formerly of The Lovelies. Pale Blue Dot was recently described to me as, "garage folk," "dead country" and "schooly rock"; so make of that what you will.
The following night at the Upper Level The Lackloves bring all the power and twice the pop for a show with The Buggs. Check out the dreamy little ditty, "Still Missing You" off 2004's "The Beat and the Time."
We may be unsure as to what the name IROCK Z refers to, but what we do know is when you see the name on a show bill, it means fats, brash rock 'n' roll. The band plays Saturday, Aug. 11 at Stonefly Brewing Co. with Ann Arbor's The Avatars.
Acoustic songstress melaniejane has been playing music in Milwaukee for nearly a decade and has been nominated for several WAMIs. Currently she's performing with the Racine Symphony Orchestra, but still finds the time to do a Riverwest gig. See her at Linneman's Riverwest Inn on Sunday, Aug. 12 with Victoria Vox.
