It's St. Patrick's Day in the United States, so we know you're going out; it's only a matter of where. Just about every bar and restaurant in the city has the good business sense to capitalize on this booziest of holidays, but how many of them have live Irish music actually worth listening to?
That being said, we here at the OnMilwaukee.com / WMSE Local Music Podcast start you off this week with "Sinner's Sermon" from Reilly, Milwaukee's hard-rocking, hard-working Celtic band. The oh-so-Irish five-piece plays with Chicago's The Tossers tonight at Turner Hall Ballroom. This special day also happens to commemorate an exciting 27 years for our very own 91.7 WMSE.
We're giving you a good five days to recover from whatever shenanigans you got yourself into on St. Patty's Day before tossing you to the dogs Friday night. There's a few things to choose from, should you need options.
Jonathan Burks hearts Milwaukee, and we're a pretty big fan of him as well. Usually a solo musician, Burks has corralled a band to back him on stage when he plays Stonefly Brewing Co. this Friday, March 21. Roberts Blake and The Candliers round out the bill.
Molitor admits, "Sometimes I Get Like This," and that is just fine with us as long as "this" remains energetic power pop with emo-esque harmonies and hooks. The band takes the stage at Points East Pub this Friday night with The Bakers and Interstate.
There is no mistaking Robert Allen Jr. for anything less than an extraordinary guitar guru. If you dig the blues and some fancy finger work, head to the Twisted Fork (yeah, the restaurant on North and Farwell) Friday night to see the Robert Allen Jr. Trio. We're not sure why they're doing shows there now, either, but it beats hitting up the same clubs week after week.
