Once again, local musicians come together to help a friend in need. Bassist Jim Kishline was seriously injured in a May 6 accident and has been hospitalized for weeks. On Sunday, July 15, Cream City Music, 12505 W. Bluemound Rd. in Brookfield, will host a day-long benefit concert for him beginning at 1 p.m.
"We heard about what happened to Jim and thought, there's got to be something we can do," says Cream City Music owner Joe Gallenberger. "Lots of musicians and other friends have volunteered to help with the event. Jim has a lot of people who really care about him."
Among the musicians who have committed to perform are Willy Porter, Paul Cebar, Robin Pluer, John Sieger and The Subcontinentals, Greg Koch, The Lackloves, Chuck Hedges and Peter Mulvey. The full schedule is below. OMC columnist Dave Begel and Kevin Brandt will serve as emcees.
"As of now, they're all scheduled to play solo or with their regular bands," says Sarah Gallenberger, "but I wouldn't be surprised if some spontaneous jamming and collaboration comes up. We are also recording the concert."
Donations of auction items are also being accepted in advance.
"We are also running Ebay auctions to benefit the Kishline family for the week preceding the event, which will be scheduled to end at various times throughout the day," says Sarah Gallenberger. "The auctioned items are going to be things like guitars, golfing passes, restaurant gift cards."
The concert is organized with the collaboration of Jam for S.A.M., a group founded last year to help raise money for ailing local musicians. Admission is $20 at the door.
"We're hoping to have a steady stream of people throughout the day to see the different bands," says Sarah Gallenberger.
