Milwaukee jazz vocalist Ellen Winters -- who recently left her post as director of Westown Association -- is ready to reveal the "Secret of Life" to anyone willing to listen. That is, that's what she has named her second solo full-length album -- a very personal collection of works that she's releasing on Chicago's 251 Records. For her local fans, she's planning a CD release party on Sunday, Oct. 22 at Caroline's Jazz Club.
Though a Milwaukee native, Ellen has performed jazz and cabaret all over the country, including New York City -- the site of her first "Secrets" CD release party (in Greenwich Village's Roses Turn on Saturday, Sept. 30).
Her first solo CD, "Pure Imagination," came out in 2003 and received numerous awards, including several Wisconsin Area Music Industry nominations over the last several years. Three years later, she's even more confident in her music.
"We have spent a great deal of time on this project, but I couldn't be happier with the result," she says.
Winters performs at The Barclay Gallery & Café on Saturday, Sept. 2 with Frank DeMiles at 7 p.m.
