On Sat., Sept. 15, Clamnation took the stage at The Social (434 S. 2nd St.). This 10-year-old, eight-piece band has gone through a lot of changes since forming. Starting out as a blues/jazz group, the sound has morphed into more of a contemporary Latin/funk band.
The band has so many members, the keyboardist had to set up off-stage. Clamnation comprises a drummer, stand-up bass, percussionist, guitar, keyboard and horn section. The brass and percussion give this band an incredibly full sound; much like an old time big band. Its musical range also sets this band apart. Clamnation covers all their different styles in the same performance. The group played two long sets and kept the energy up the entire night.
Clamnation's music is very danceable and a few members of the audience opted to "cut a rug" at The Social.
The band has two albums, "Clamnation Live" (1998) and "Clamnation" (2000). Check them out on the Web at artists.mp3s.com/artists/19/clamnation.html.
